I Lit this Candle

I lit this candle in solidarity. To those individuals who have faced unthinkable violence and treatment based on their appearance.
I lit this candle in honor. Of the lives lost, and to the lives who lost a loved one by a system that has failed them, and in turn has failed every American.
I lit this candle in hope. Not blind hope. A hope that fills our collective spirit with the courage to face some hard truths, and to be willing to change, not just for ourselves- but for this planet we call home, the creatures who dwell beside us, and for the people we call our brothers and sisters.
I lit this candle as a reminder. That there will be light shining, illuminating the path out of this dark hour.
I lit this candle for spirit. It will take something beautiful to guide us. One of the most beautiful things I have come to know on this Earth is the human spirit. Muhammad Ali said it best “ME, WE.”
